DPR Construction has broken ground on the new Westminster Medical Offices for healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente in Westminster, Colorado, according to an Oct. 9 announcement. The 132,000-square-foot build’s cost is $230 million, Kaiser confirmed to Construction Dive.
The build represents what Kaiser calls its most significant brick-and-mortar investment in Colorado since 2011, according to the news release, the same year the firm announced its plan to expand into Northern Colorado.
Once complete, the three-story facility will offer an outpatient surgery center and urgent care alongside primary and specialty care services for patients in the North Denver area, according to the announcement. It will also offer OB-GYN services, a pharmacy, laboratory services, medical imaging and pediatrics.
The offices will be located directly south of the current Westminster Medical Offices on Huron Street, which opened in 1976, per the announcement.
DPR Construction will use prefabricated and modular construction on systems that include structural steel, exterior facades, interior spaces and MEP systems, Scott Miller, Mountain States leader at the firm, told Construction Dive via email. The approach will help Santa Clara, California-based DPR move portions of construction off the jobsite, which will help the builder with schedule certainty while reducing site complexity.
“This approach is especially valuable in healthcare environments, where complex building systems require precise coordination and minimizing disruption is critical,” Miller said.
The contractor is bullish on prefabricated construction. It dedicated 45,542 square feet to prefabrication when it moved its headquarters to Santa Clara this year and has previously invested in the building method with a prefabrication research facility in North Carolina.
The new Kaiser Permanente facility will open in 2028, per the announcement.
