Construction spending — Aug. 1
Construction spending was up 4.5% year-over-year to an adjusted annual rate of $1.23 trillion in May, driven by month-to-month gains in public construction. Spending has largely trended upward over the past year and a half, though its growth has flattened in recent months even as construction employment is down and contractors say they have plenty of work to do. On Tuesday, Aug. 1, the Commerce Department will release its spending figures for June, offering more details on whether continued activity is driving spending. Read more.
