CA drought fails to dampen demand for pools
Construction Monitor, which tracks building permits, reported that Californians built or rebuilt 11,000 residential swimming pools last year, more than any other year since 2007.
That number could rise to 13,000 this year, according to Capital Public Radio of Sacramento.
Demand is high for now, but the flood of pool installations could dry up as local water agencies ban the filling of pools as they try to comply with new state rules limiting water use.
According to the California Pool and Spa Association, the state’s $5 billion pool industry employs approximately 50,000.
