Fleming Construction Group is celebrating two project honors from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Oklahoma's 2026 Excellence in Construction Awards, presented October 29 at the Osage Casino Hotel Skyline Event Center in Tulsa.
The awards recognize two projects delivered by Fleming companies: the Nestlé Purina Distribution Facility in Edmond, Oklahoma, completed by Fleming Construction, and OCAT Hangar 4 in Oklahoma City, completed by Fleming Steel Erectors.
Together, the projects demonstrate the organization's capabilities across large-scale industrial construction and technically demanding aviation facilities, highlighting the experience, coordination, and field execution that support successful project delivery.
"These projects represent two very different construction challenges, but they share the same foundation: experienced teams, careful coordination, and a commitment to delivering for our clients," said Fleming President, Justin Willett "We're proud of the people and project partners whose work made these awards possible."
Nestlé Purina Distribution Facility: Delivering Through Complex Site Challenges
Fleming Construction earned an Excellence in Construction Award for its work on the Nestlé Purina Distribution Facility, a 300,000-square-foot, $27.75 million food-grade distribution facility in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The turnkey project incorporated site-cast tilt-up construction, structural steel, specialized roofing systems, and extensive site development.
Throughout construction, the team encountered significant weather and site challenges, including 126 rain days, approximately six weeks of flooding, and foundation conditions that required redesign. These circumstances demanded close coordination among engineers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, as well as adjustments to construction sequencing and scheduling.
Despite these challenges, Fleming Construction completed the project on budget, demonstrating the adaptability, technical expertise, and project management capabilities required to deliver large-scale industrial facilities under demanding conditions.
The award recognizes the team's ability to navigate unforeseen obstacles while maintaining its commitment to quality, collaboration, and successful project delivery.
OCAT Hangar 4: Specialized Steel Erection in an Active Aviation Environment
Fleming Steel Erectors received an Excellence in Construction Award for its work on OCAT Hangar 4, a 67,704-square-foot aircraft maintenance facility in Oklahoma City developed for OCAT, AAR, and Alaska Airlines.
The $9.7 million project features a 302-foot clear-span structure designed to accommodate three Boeing 737 aircraft. Its construction required complex multi-crane erection operations, FAA permitting, and precise coordination within 15 feet of an active aircraft hangar.
Fleming Steel Erectors self-performed 99% of the erection labor, using engineered temporary bracing, coordinated lifting procedures, and rigorous quality and safety oversight to execute the technically demanding structural steel installation.
The project was completed with zero reported safety incidents, reflecting the team's disciplined planning, experienced field leadership, and commitment to safe execution.
The award highlights Fleming Steel Erectors' ability to deliver complex structural steel projects in operationally sensitive environments where precision, coordination, and safety are essential.
Recognition That Reflects the Strength of the Fleming Organization
The two awards recognize distinct areas of construction expertise while underscoring the shared values and capabilities of the Fleming organization.
From turnkey industrial construction to specialized structural steel erection, Fleming's operating companies bring together experienced professionals, technical resources, and a commitment to quality that supports successful outcomes across diverse project types.
The recognition also builds on Fleming's history of award-winning construction, including last year’s ABC Excellence in Construction recognition for the Switch RNO NAP 03 data center project in Reno, Nevada.
"Recognition like this belongs to the people doing the work," said John Gilbertson, Executive Vice President and Founding Partner of Fleming Construction Group. "From project planning and coordination to the crews executing in the field, these awards reflect the experience, accountability, and dedication our teams bring to every project."
