As AECOM’s chief legal officer retires, the contractor has announced its succession plan.
Manav Kumar, the company’s global head of public affairs and global general counsel, will succeed David Gan as chief legal officer effective Oct. 3, according to an announcement from the builder. Gan will transition to senior advisor and plans to retire in 2027.
Kumar joined AECOM in 2017 after working for the city of Los Angeles as deputy counsel to Mayor Eric Garcetti, according to his LinkedIn.
He also served as the mayor’s chief olympics officer during Los Angeles’ successful bid to host the 2028 Olympic Paralympic Games. Kumar’s previous positions at AECOM include chief of staff for the office of the chairman and CEO and deputy general counsel, per his LinkedIn.
In his new role, Kumar told Construction Dive via email that he will monitor the regulatory landscape and digital technology trends, including artificial intelligence and data privacy issues.
“As AECOM continues to grow and pursue new opportunities, it is important that we anticipate change, adapt to emerging threats and maintain a strong risk management framework that supports long-term success,” Kumar said. “The legal team's role is to help the business navigate these developments with confidence while enabling innovation, growth, and strong outcomes for our clients and stakeholders.”
The retiring Gan has spent two decades at AECOM. He joined the firm in 2006 as a vice president and assistant general counsel, according to his LinkedIn. While at the company, Gan helped improve the company’s legal, governance and risk framework while also building a legal organization that supported AECOM, per the Sept. 16 announcement.
“Throughout his more than 20 years at AECOM, David has made important contributions to our company, helping strengthen our legal, governance and compliance capabilities while supporting many of our most significant business initiatives,” Troy Rudd, AECOM’s CEO, said in the announcement.
