Tempe-based Sundt Construction, one of the country’s largest general contractors, has acquired Industrial Power Solutions (IPS), a full-service industrial electrical contractor based in Phoenix. Under the agreement, IPS will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sundt, with some shared services and personnel. The move more than doubles the size of Sundt’s skilled electrical workforce.
The strategic acquisition reflects Sundt’s continued growth and enables IPS to expand its capabilities as it pursues larger and more complex projects. IPS has operated in the Valley for nearly two decades, building its expertise in water and wastewater treatment facilities, which often have large and complex electrical scopes of work. The acquisition positions both companies to meet the growing demand for water and wastewater construction in the Southwest.
“The technical expertise of the IPS team matched with Sundt’s long history as a self-perform contractor creates an opportunity for our organizations to expand our capabilities and better serve our clients,” said Sundt President and CEO Cade Rowley. “Just as importantly, IPS’s commitment to safety, innovation and quality align with our own company values.”
“We are proud to bring the power of employee-ownership to 200-plus IPS employees through our new relationship with Sundt,” said Lucas Bruxvoort, IPS founder. “IPS will continue to deliver the high-quality industrial electrical solutions our clients expect, with the support of one of the nation’s most respected general contractors.”
Bruxvoort and his leadership team will remain with IPS as part of the agreement. IPS is an industrial electrical contractor with two locations in the Phoenix metro region. The firm was founded in 2008 and specializes in electrical construction as well as manufacturing, design and field control services. Its notable projects include the Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant, the Union Hills Water Treatment Plant and the 24th Street Water Treatment Plant.
General contractor Sundt is headquartered in Tempe and ranked No. 46 on Engineering News-Record’s Top 400 contractors list. The firm, founded in 1890, has constructed multiple landmarks around the Valley and throughout the state. Its current projects include the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant Rehabilitation, the Town of Gilbert North Water Treatment Plant and the 202 Santan Freeway Widening. Sundt was recently recognized as the safest construction company in the nation by the Associated General Contractors of America. It is the only construction company to have received this honor three times.
