Hemma Concrete, a fast-growing concrete contractor with three active divisions, has significantly expanded its use of the YARDZ asset management platform, transforming what began as an equipment tracking solution into a company-wide resource management system that is improving efficiency, accountability, and project planning.
Initially deployed to track heavy equipment across multiple job sites, YARDZ quickly revealed broader capabilities that prompted Hemma to extend its use across additional asset categories, including vehicles, tools, and formwork valued between $2.5 and $3 million.
Hemma operates across high-profile projects such as the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Avalon luxury development in Alpharetta, GA, and the Troubadour Golf and Field Club in Nashville, TN. Managing a mix of owned and rented equipment across these projects had previously led to inefficiencies, duplication, and increased risk of loss or theft.
“When we reached out to YARDZ, it wasn’t about tool management, it was equipment management,” said Eric Blair, who oversees logistics for Hemma Concrete. “But more than that, we specifically needed a platform that could communicate directly with our existing equipment fleet.”
Hemma ultimately selected YARDZ due to its seamless integration with the company’s existing project management and accounting systems, as well as its ability to communicate directly with GPS-enabled equipment without requiring additional software.
After rolling out the platform across Hemma Concrete and its Hemma Elevations division, company leaders quickly recognized that YARDZ could serve as a centralized hub for managing all company assets, not just heavy machinery.
“YARDZ has become a resource management tool for all our assets, not just equipment,” said Ben Kiker, Executive Vice President at Hemma. “Once we realized it could handle tools, maintenance, inspections, and more, it opened up an entirely new level of functionality.”
Today, Hemma is leveraging a wide range of YARDZ capabilities, including:
- Preventative maintenance scheduling with real-time updates from third-party vendors
- Digital inspections integrated with project management systems
- Tool tracking and allocation for assets valued at $250 or more
- Geofencing alerts for theft prevention and rapid recovery
- Fleet monitoring for driver behavior and fuel usage
These capabilities have already delivered measurable benefits. In one instance, Hemma recovered a stolen piece of equipment within five minutes due to geofencing alerts.
Beyond operational improvements, YARDZ is enabling Hemma to make more informed decisions related to estimating, staffing, and long-term planning.
“Because we know exactly which tools are in circulation, our estimates and budgets are more accurate,” said Kiker. “It’s all about data. With the kind of information we now have, we can make smarter decisions across the board.”
The platform has also increased accountability among employees, with tracked and assigned tools leading to improved care and reduced losses.
Looking ahead, Hemma is exploring advanced applications of the platform, including predictive analytics and deeper system integrations, further positioning YARDZ as a strategic driver of growth.
Founded in 2018 by construction industry veterans Jason Perez and Josh Schuyler, YARDZ offers the most powerful software for tracking rental and owned equipment. The tool helps companies better understand exactly what equipment they have in their inventory and where it’s located. This saves time and money by eliminating duplicate rentals; displaying all equipment contracts and their provisions; and ensuring that available equipment is sent where it is needed most.
