YARDZ, the premier tool for managing owned and rented assets in the construction industry, announced that East and Westbrook Construction Co., Inc., a leading heavy industrial concrete contractor operating across more than 15 states, has signed on as a YARDZ customer.
According to Christof Moosbrugger, the company’s Director of Logistics and Maintenance, the decision to implement YARDZ was driven by the need for a centralized system to manage a mixed fleet of heavy machinery (approximately 60% owned and 40% rented). More specifically, the goal was to maximize the utilization of the company’s owned equipment while reducing rental costs, all through better asset management.
“Our operations are complex and span multiple states, so it was critical to have a single platform to manage all our equipment efficiently on every job,” said Moosbrugger. “We required a solution that would allow us to centralize all our equipment-related data and provide better visibility into both our owned and rented assets.”
After trying a different software solution that failed to meet expectations, Moosbrugger turned to YARDZ (which had been part of his original search) and was immediately impressed. YARDZ is now being used to track over 100 pieces of heavy equipment, primarily Caterpillar machines used for industrial concrete projects.
One key feature that helped close the sale was the overdue rental alerts. A short time after implementing YARDZ, Moosbrugger caught several overdue rentals that would have otherwise slipped through. What’s more, the contractor anticipates deeper ROI as additional team members adopt the system, and more departments are integrated.
“I’m tracking 100 plus pieces of machinery, both owned and rented,” Moosbrugger said. “Our investment in YARDZ should pay for itself over the course of a year if we’re able to catch enough overdue or duplicate rentals. Even a 10% reduction in rental costs would translate to significant savings.”
Though East and Westbrook is still in the preliminary stages of onboarding, the implementation process has been seamless. Moosbrugger noted that YARDZ personnel handled all data input, sparing the company from this time-consuming process.
In addition to rental and owned equipment tracking, East and Westbrook plans to fully integrate additional capabilities of the YARDZ platform, including:
- Tool and consumable tracking (PPE, safety gear, and supplies)
- Maintenance management across logistics and repair divisions
- Shipping and receiving integration
- OEM telematics (via VisionLink) for real-time equipment data
Founded in 2018 by construction industry veterans Jason Perez and Josh Schuyler, YARDZ offers the most powerful software for tracking rental and owned equipment. The tool helps companies better understand what equipment they have in their inventory and where it’s located. This saves time and money by eliminating duplicate rentals; displaying all equipment contracts and their provisions; and ensuring that available equipment is sent where it is needed most. www.yardz.com.
