Dusty Robotics, the construction robotics company pioneering multi-trade automated layout, today announced the availability of its Dusty for Autodesk® AutoCAD® plugin in the Autodesk App Store. AutoCAD is a computer-aided design (CAD) software used for precise 2D and 3D drafting, design, and modeling.
The Dusty Robotics AutoCAD plugin automates the preparation of robot-ready drawings by extracting layout information directly from coordinated multi-trade CAD models. As part of Dusty's comprehensive FieldPrint Platform, the integration supports the complete BIM-to-field workflow, enabling design teams to output print-ready files for the FieldPrinter 2 with minimal workflow changes. The plugin incorporates best practices from thousands of construction projects and automatically organizes drawing elements to optimize printing efficiency for all interior trades.
Field teams can print layouts for multiple trades simultaneously, including edge printing, shadow printing behind obstacles, and curve printing. Dusty Robotics’ compact form factor navigates tight spaces while maintaining Dusty's industry-leading 1/16-inch accuracy.
The construction industry continues to lose an average of 10 percent of profit margins due to poor coordination and layout conflicts on jobsites. These challenges stem from manual layout methods that are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to human error. As skilled layout professionals become harder to find, contractors are seeking automated solutions that maintain design integrity while accelerating field execution.
"Design software integration is an integral part of our vision of delivering field intelligence to building crews,” said Tessa Lau, CEO and co-founder of Dusty Robotics. "Our AutoCAD plugin removes friction between design and field teams by translating the digital design directly into the information field crews see on the jobsite floor. This integration is a core part of our plan to orchestrate the work done on construction sites, delivering perfect outcomes by directing the work of every person, machine, and robot on site. With Dusty’s Field Intelligence, contractors eliminate quality erosion and protect their hard-earned profits.”
The AutoCAD integration expands Dusty's existing design tool compatibility, which already includes a comprehensive Autodesk® Revit® integration and the cloud-based Dusty Portal for multi-trade collaboration. By supporting two major Autodesk design solutions, construction teams can maintain their preferred workflows while accessing automated layout capabilities. The software enables multiple trades to combine and align digital files, verify coordinate systems, and ensure everyone works from a single source of truth.
“As construction projects continue to experience skilled labor shortages, finding ways to improve field work productivity can have a significant impact,” said James Cook, director of industry & technology partnerships at Autodesk. “The integration between AutoCAD and Dusty Robotics creates an elegant workflow that connects design to construction and automates a previously tedious and error-prone process.”
Dusty Robotics has enabled contractors to print more than 225 million square feet of layout across thousands of buildings. The company serves general contractors, including DPR, Mortenson, McCarthy, and Skanska, as well as trade contractors in framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
The Dusty Robotics AutoCAD plugin is available now through the Autodesk App Store and integrates with the company's complete FieldPrint Platform, including the FieldPrinter 2 robot and comprehensive support services.
