August 26, 2025 – PMWEB, the leading platform for lifecycle project management in capital portfolios, today released findings from its Consumer Construction Impact Survey, revealing strong public demand for digital project oversight in construction project management.
More than half (55%) of respondents in the survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers are more confident in construction projects that use digital project management tools. This comes as almost half (48%) experience construction-related disruptions daily or multiple times per week.
“While construction projects are essential for community growth and infrastructure improvement, our research reveals a critical blind spot in how these projects communicate with, and consider, the people they impact most,” said Huw Roberts, CEO at PMWEB. “The data shows that better project oversight and communication aren’t just nice-to-haves — they're essential for maintaining community trust and reducing public frustration.”
Other key findings from the report include:
- Communication gaps persist: 52% feel poorly informed or completely uninformed about local construction projects.
- Top frustrations include: Unexpected road closures and detours (31%), followed by prolonged disruptions (16%).
- Unexpected sacrifices: When asked what they'd give up to avoid construction frustration for 24 hours, the top answer was social media (26%), followed by morning coffee (21%).
- Blame assignment: When projects go wrong, residents most often blame the city (38%) or contractors/overseeing organizations (32% combined).
- Timeline skepticism: Only 13% believe projects finish on time, while 26% say projects take significantly longer than projected.
The Path Forward: Technology as a Bridge
When asked what would increase trust in construction project management, respondents prioritized clear timelines with milestone updates (34%) and transparency about delays (24%). Residents want project timelines and completion dates (28%) along with schedules of disruptive activities (25%).
“These results validate what we’ve long believed: when project teams have better visibility and control over their operations, communities benefit through reduced disruptions and improved communication,” said Vijai Viswanathan, Chief Product and Technology Officer at PMWEB. “While residents may never see the digital dashboards that coordinate these complex projects, they absolutely feel the difference when those tools are working effectively behind the scenes.”
