Hicks transitioned from a 15-year career in equity trading and portfolio management after experiencing firsthand the frustrations of poorly managed renovations. He founded CooperBuild in 2012 with the goal of bringing structure, accountability, and design clarity to the construction process.

“Coming from a finance background where precision and process are essential, I saw an opportunity to apply those same principles to an industry often defined by inefficiency,” said Hicks. “Opening our own millwork shop allows us to control quality, accelerate timelines, and deliver the detailed finishes our clients expect.”

The new facility supports faster prototyping, scalable customization, and seamless coordination with architects and designers. CooperBuild’s in-house capabilities span cabinetry, wall paneling, trim, and custom-built-ins, helping to reduce delays and rework while maintaining consistent quality across projects.

Rooted in Brooklyn brownstone restorations and now serving a growing portfolio of high-end downtown NYC projects, CooperBuild blends traditional craftsmanship with innovative construction management.
