For a ninth consecutive year, American Global hosted its Annual Soccer Event & Tournament in sunny Miami, Florida. This full-day affair has become one the most popular industry outings, welcoming nearly 200 participants across the three-part event.
The day began with an informative presentation to a packed house, entitled Trends in Alternative Procurement Methods (Design Build and Progressive Design-Build). The interactive panel discussion was led by four of American Global’s most knowledgeable specialists: Francois Wasselin (London, UK), Caryn Maxfield (IL), Issy Bustamante (FL) and John McGill (NJ). Together, they addressed several issues on insurance, surety and JV-specific considerations for DB and PDB projects, followed by an open Q&A session.
After a light lunch, players and spectators headed over to Soccer Rooftop for some fierce and fun competition. Eight teams, comprised of more than 100 players, faced off in a round-robin style tournament with the top two teams from each division advancing to the semi-finals, before determining the two finalists. With a thrilling penalty-kick win in overtime, American Global earned the opportunity to face Team Sacyr (2022 tournament champions) in the finals. It was another close and exciting match. And, despite outstanding play by American Global rookies and veterans alike, Sacyr earned bragging rights once again, as winners of the 2023 tournament.
However, the true winner of this event is the YMCA. Thanks to the generosity of donors and participants, nearly $6,000 was donated. With a matching contribution provided by American Global, they were able to present a check for $12,000 to the YMCA of South Florida. One hundred percent of the funds donated are used directly for local youth soccer programs which help young people learn skills that will benefit them not only on the soccer field, but more importantly, in the game of life. American Global, on behalf of all those who contributed, was proud to give back to the community where they first founded their brokerage business nine years ago.
