Suffolk, one of the nation’s most successful and innovative builders and real estate enterprises, today announced that Tom Giordano has been appointed to the role of General Manager of the New York Region. In this role, he will be responsible for supporting the company’s mission and vision, enhancing internal organization processes and infrastructure, and driving future growth in the metro area.
“I have long admired Tom for his talent, his work ethic, and his passion for all aspects of the construction industry,” said John Fish, chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction. “I am thrilled that he will be heading up our New York office and am confident that under his leadership we will accelerate our steady upward trajectory.”
“Suffolk is making a big investment to create a significant impact in the New York market, and I am excited to be able to lead the team working to realize that goal,” Mr. Giordano said. “I truly believe that Suffolk, under John’s leadership, aims to be the best builder in the country. The company’s rapid growth in the metro area and its outside-the-box thinking when it comes to technology are a testament to that effort, and we are just getting started.”
Suffolk’s hiring of Mr. Giordano demonstrates the organization’s strong momentum, significant gains in market share, and commitment and promising future in New York. It also comes on the heels of an announcement that Suffolk will relocate its New York City headquarters to more than 24,000 square feet at 50 Rockefeller Plaza. When the buildout is complete in May 2022, nearly 160 Suffolk employees will be working in the New York City office – up from just 4 in 2015.
Suffolk’s New York operation is responsible for highly visible and notable building construction projects in the metro area, including Quay Tower and The Landing at Brooklyn Bridge Park, 640 Columbia Red Hook Logistics, Summit NYC at 222 East 44th St., the iconic Waldorf Astoria renovation, The XI condos, multiple projects for New York University, and Hudson Exchange West in Jersey City, among others.
As it continues to expand its reach in the metro area market, Suffolk has hired numerous other strategic leaders in its New York office, including Ralph Esposito as President, Gerald Bianco as Operations Director; Joseph Whalen as Vice President of Operations; Thomas Cossu as Vice President, Project Executive; Alexis McGuffin as Vice President of Business Development; and Carolyn Gallagher of Vice President of Preconstruction.
Prior to joining Suffolk, Mr. Giordano was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Lendlease Construction Holdings, a national construction management company. He served on the company’s executive committee responsible for overseeing all commercial and strategic aspects of the business.
Mr. Giordano earned his bachelor’s degree from Fordham College and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the World Trade Center Captive Insurance Agency and continues to serve the Advisory Board for the Construction SuperConference and a number of other educational and charitable not-for-profit organizations.
