FORESTVILLE, Calif., August 13, 2018 - West Sonoma County Union High School District (WSCUHSD) recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Performing Arts Center at El Molino High School. Designed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects, the 9,000 square-foot facility is the first of its kind for the high school and will be used for school arts productions, assemblies and presentations, as well as being available to the community.
“We have all long dreamt of a performing arts space for El Molino High School and could not be more thrilled it is now a reality,” said Jennie Bruneman, WSCUHSD director of facilities maintenance and operations. “Despite not having an official space for drama, band and dance, our students and teachers have fostered an incredible program, and the Performing Arts Center will only add to this, along with being a place for school assemblies and for our community to enjoy. QKA designed a beautiful facility that will bring El Molino’s arts to life, and the building’s location in the center of the school was a very intentional focal point for our campus.”
Funded by the passage of Measure I, the Performing Arts Center will have the capacity for 298 seats, including four accessible. Along with being the hub of performing arts for the school and available to the community for rent, the space will serve as an additional classroom area, allowing for instruction on the technical side of how to run a theater and other classes and assemblies such as public speaking. Plans for Phase 2 of construction are currently in the works and will add a full lobby area with restrooms, as well as back of house facilities, including a common green room, dressing rooms and restrooms. GCCI, Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
