MONDAY, MARCH 23, 2015 MIAMI, FLA.— Munilla Construction Management has been selected by Homestead to build their new police headquarters that will be located a block away from the old headquarters behind Losner Park.
MCM won the bid over six other firms competing for the contract. This will be the second project MCM is working on for the city of Homestead this year. The first being the new City Hall in Homestead’s historic downtown, which is on schedule to be finished by the end of 2015.
In January of this year, the city of Homestead approved of a conceptual drawing submitted by Miami architecture firm, Rodriguez and Quiroga Architects Chartered, who will work with MCM to complete the project design and proposed cost of within or below $13.5 million by mid-April.
Homestead and MCM plan to break ground sometime this May, around a year after residents had approved a bond referendum to increase property taxes to raise $18 million for the new station, and $3 million to set up a temporary police station in the sports complex.
The construction of the new police department will be a 55,000 square foot three-story building to replace the current one, which during the last 30 years has been decaying from it's original early 1900’s structure.
The new police station will include involvement from the local workforce, and is on an accelerated schedule to be complete in 14 months.
