Boston-based contractor Suffolk recently broke ground on a major expansion of the White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York, in the state’s Hudson Valley, according to a July 1 news release shared with Construction Dive. The cost of the expansion is $750 million, according to a news release from the hospital.
The 10-story, approximately 500,000-square-foot expansion will see the hospital increase its licensed bed capacity from 292 to 436, ultimately adding 240 private rooms, according to the release, 144 of which will open in 2028.
In addition, the hospital will contain a dedicated operating room floor with space for 10 additional state-of-the-art operating rooms, and will double the size of the hospital's emergency department, per Suffolk.
Suffolk plans to use Live Dimensions, its proprietary artificial intelligence-based steel tracking software, from the design phase to completion on the White Plains expansion, according to the builder. Previously, the contractor used it on its South Shore University Hospital Pavilion Core & Shell project in Bay Shore, New York.
It will also use the NavVis handheld scanner to capture high-quality data, which it will then integrate into cloud-based collaboration platform Revizto. The company plans to use it to maximize cooperation between project teams.
The White Plains Hospital will open in 2028, according to Suffolk.
