The announcement is a significant development for contractors eyeing data center opportunities around Data Center Alley, Northern Virginia’s prominent data center corridor.
The 82-acre site, called VA4, will span about 929,000 square feet and will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification, according to the release. The three, two-story facilities will use a closed-loop chilled water system with liquid-to-liquid cooling technology capable of handling 100% of information technology workloads, according to the project data sheet.
“Fredericksburg offered a significant opportunity for Vantage to serve our customers seeking capacity and access to the resources of Data Center Alley,” said Dana Adams, North America president at Vantage Data Centers, in the release. “The region’s proximity to major metros, access to robust infrastructure and growing technology ecosystem make it an ideal location to meet skyrocketing demand.”
Data centers are propping up construction backlogs and are driving a wave of large-scale construction planning activity. In September, nearly one in five contractors reported being under contract for a data center job, according to Associated Builders and Contractors.
