Dive Brief:
- In the University of Houston's (UH) Construction Management Department, taking the national certification exam given by the American Institute of Constructors is a graduation requirement, and teaching to the test seems to be working pretty well.
- In the most recent exam, senior Eric Talley had the nation's highest score (278 out of 300 possible points), following classmate Nicole Rawlins, who topped the country in last spring's test.
- Department Chairman Neil Eldin includes exam review in a senior capstone course he teaches, and he has made sure that other faculty are covering topics that UH students will need to know for the wide-ranging exam.
Dive Insight:
Talley said he figured he had done OK on the test when he left the exam room, but he said he never expected to make it two-out-of-two for Houston. The area has an advantage, Talley said, because of the area's healthy construction market and the experience that instructors bring from it to the classroom.
