The National Apartment Association had a company ask 11,000 students and 3,600 parents what matters most to them when shopping for student apartments. No. 1 was private bedrooms and baths.
Among the students, 62 percent rated those features as tops on the list. Among parents, 40 percent made them No. 1.
The survey firm J. Turner Research asked the questions between Jan. 20 and Feb. 1.
After privacy in sleeping and bathing, both groups wanted laundry appliances in the units. The responses for making that the top criterion came from 19 percent of students and 16 percent of parents.
