• Authorities said the man, whose name has not been released, plunged about 50 feet from where he was working at a building under construction in the 600 block of John Street.
• There was no word Tuesday from police about the death, though witnesses said they did not see any safety restraint as the man was falling.

A Seattle Fire Department spokesman said state labor department officials would look into the accident and that federal safety officials might too.
