- Companies that are heavily invested in highway and bridge construction are being urged to let their congressional delegations know how many local jobs are endangered by the pending demise of the federal Highway Trust Fund.
- Associated General Contractors is behind the campaign, which it calls "Hardhats for Highways" and launched at its recent national convention.
- The Trust Fund is looking at being unable to pay for any new projects after the government's fiscal year begins Oct. 1, and some projections have it losing that ability even earlier.

There are proposals floating around Washington to put funding back into the fund, including an allocation in President Obama's Fiscal 2015 budget. Senate Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has proposed a plan and stressed the importance of new money. So far, however, no one is writing any checks.
