• Two years ago, small kitchen and bath projects were what most remodelers were submitting as their best work.
• Last year brought whole-house projects into the mix in larger numbers, and this year there were numerous entries in the categories of bathroom projects over $30,000 and kitchens in the $50,000 to $100,000 range.

Big-ticket projects never went away, but the recession took a toll on them. As things get better, some of the big jobs are reappearing, though lessons learned about sticking with practical renovations have stuck, too. The signs seem good, but the overarching lesson is to wait until 2014 to see if the trend toward bigger jobs holds up. No one is sure about anything yet in this recovery.
