Dive Brief:
- Not a project for the faint of heart, Orlando, Florida, knocked down 80% of its landmark Florida Citrus Bowl stadium less than a month after its last big bowl game finished on New Year's Day.
- The city is rehabilitating the stadium, and the first step was to remove the entire lower deck – where a lot of the 56,629 fans were sitting for the Capital One Bowl.
- The city says its plan is for the reconstruction to be 95% complete by mid-November.
Dive Insight:
According to Orlando, the city and Florida Citrus Sports, the operator, believe they can bring in $300 million annually in new money by bringing more events to the refurbished bowl.
