- The Dodge Momentum Index, which is considered a good predictor of year-ahead spending for nonresidential construction, went to 96.8 in August, down some from a revised July index of 98.1. The index uses 2000 as its base year, equal to 100.

- McGraw-Hill Construction, which compiles and publishes the index, said August was 21.4% above where it stood a year back.
