Dive Brief:
- A crane being used in a hospital construction project in Mineola, N.Y., on Long Island, fell over Wednesday, but the operator reportedly received only minor injuries when he jumped from the cab during the fall.
- The accident happened where a research building is being built at the Winthrop University Hospital.
- One report said the crane, which police said was owned by Bay Crane, was being repositioned when it fell, but the same report also said it did not strike any buildings.
Dive Insight:
Perhaps crane collapses are getting more media attention since a tower crane broke off during super storm Sandy in New York City last year, dangling above Manhattan streets while images of it went around the world. There do seem to have been several in recent months, including one in October that killed a worker in Maplewood, Minn.
