Build a billion-dollar data center well, and the phone tends to ring again.

Meta has selected Minneapolis-based Mortenson and New York City-based Turner Construction to build a $10 billion data center in Lebanon, Indiana, according to a company news release.

The win adds to both contractors’ Meta portfolio. The pair already worked together on Meta’s $10 billion data center campus near Monroe, Louisiana. Mortenson also broke ground on a $1 billion Meta data center in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in December.

The state-of-the-art campus in Lebanon will deliver 1 gigawatt of capacity once complete, according to a Meta news release shared with Construction Dive. The facility would be Meta’s second data center in Indiana; the first is another Turner-led project in Jeffersonville.

In addition, the groundbreaking also marks the launch of the Boone County Career Collaborative, a workforce development initiative, according to Meta. The program connects students in the area with local employers to develop skills and explore career pathways.

Meta’s investments will also support area schools and nonprofits through its annual grant programs and contribute to local and state tax bases, according to the release.

The project budget earmarks $45 million in public road improvements and another $75 million in public water infrastructure projects, according to a Boone County Economic Development Corp. news release sent to Construction Dive. Meta also plans to improve habitat and decrease water runoff at nearby Deer Creek, according to the company.

“We’re building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI technology, and Lebanon is now at the heart of that effort,” said Rachel Peterson, vice president of data centers at Meta, in the Boone EDC release. “This is one of our largest investments to date, and it marks an important milestone in our AI ambitions.”
