Dive Brief:
- The House of Representatives has approved FY 2015 funding bills for the Corps of Engineers' Civil Works program – with $1 billion more than President Obama asked – and the General Services Administration with $700 million less.
- Contractors who do work for those agencies needn't get too excited or disappointed, however, because there does not appear to be any motion in the Senate.
- What appears most likely to this stage is that there will be continuing resolution to hold funding at FY 2014 levels when the year ends Sept. 30.
Dive Insight:
There are non-fiscal hassles with both bills. The House's GSA bill has a provision to punish contractors for Fair Labor Standards Act violations by barring them from federal work. The Senate Ways and Means Committee didn't vote on its version the Corps bill because of amendments about EPA wetlands jurisdiction, climate change and coal regulation.
