• The U.S. Department of Commerce reported that starts on single-family homes in August were at an annualized pace of 628,000.
• Multifamily starts came in at an annualized rate of 891,000 units.
• Builders pulled more single-family permits in August than they had since May 2008.

Dive Insight:

Though the National Association of Home Builders said a survey found builders holding pat this month on their expressed confidence in the market, the construction starts and permits seem to say that's a good place to stand. There appears to be less enthusiasm among companies that build apartment buildings and condo complexes.
