- Colleges and universities in New York City have not gone without construction during the economic downturn, but indications are that there is a lot more coming in the next five years that they have undertaken in the recent past.
- The schools put about $4.5 billion into construction over the past five years, and that is expected to more than double in the next five, according to numbers collected by the New York Building Congress, a construction industry trade organization.
- In addition to projects at schools in Manhattan and the Bronx, Cornell University — based upstate in Ithaca, N.Y. — is set to build a Tech Campus in the city, on Roosevelt Island in the East River.
