A joint venture of Watsonville, California-based Granite Construction and Tokyo-headquartered Obayashi has landed a $158 million contract to build Phase 1 of the Enhanced Air and Missile Defense project on the Pacific island of Guam.
The project site spans approximately 120 acres of a former military housing area, located just south of Granite’s ongoing work at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz. The site will support future missile defense infrastructure to be installed under a separate contract, according to a news release.
The scope of work includes:
- 60,000 linear feet of underground duct bank.
- 110,000 cubic yards of mass earthwork.
- 11,000 linear feet of water main.
- 7,400 cubic yards of structural concrete.
- 1.3 million pounds of rebar.
- A 220,000-gallon steel water tank.
- A fire pump building.
- A Security Forces office building.
“This award underscores Granite’s continued commitment to supporting our national defense infrastructure and our strong partnership with NAVFAC,” Granite Vice President of Regional Operations Curt Haldeman said in the release. “We are proud to contribute to the security of Guam and the broader Indo-Pacific region through this critical project.”
Construction is scheduled to begin this month and is expected to be completed by July 2028.
