Granite Construction has rounded up two $100 million-plus project wins.
The Watsonville, California-based contractor unveiled a $115 million construction manager/general contractor award July 7 for Runway 1R-19L and Taxiway W at San Francisco International Airport.
The job is part of SFO's $11 billion Capital Improvement Program to modernize and improve the airport's infrastructure, including runways, taxiways and terminals. Granite’s scope includes upgrades to the hot mix asphalt pavement, lighting infrastructure, drainage, signage, runway status lights, sectionals, grooving and striping, according to a company news release.
Granite will demolish Taxiway F1 and build a new Taxiway W. Granite will supply its own asphalt from its Santa Clara, California, asphalt plant, with plans to deploy approximately 185,000 tons of material.
The job is slated to begin in March 2026, with completion anticipated in November 2026.
In addition, Granite won an $111 million contract from the Utah DOT for an infrastructure project in Salt Lake City, according to a second news release on July 8.
The Interstate 215, State Route 201 to North Temple project includes the rehabilitation of three miles of I-215, and 12 miles of ramps for SR-201, Interstate 80 and California Avenue. The rehabilitation of 22 bridges is also included in the contractor’s scope.
Key elements of the project include:
- Rubblizing existing Portland cement concrete pavement and then overlaying 175,000 tons of highly modified hot mix asphalt.
- Structural deck replacements, hydro demolition and pothole patching across the 22 bridges. This includes 18 deck replacements, 10 via hydro-demolition with eight others slated for standard removal and replacement.
- Installation of 22,000 linear feet of storm drain.
- Ramp metering installation at California Avenue.
Granite will supply the 175,000 tons of highly modified hot mix asphalt and 5,000 tons of temporary hot mix asphalt for the project. Construction is expected to begin August 2025 and be completed November 2026.
