- A report from the National Equipment Register and the National Insurance Crime Bureau says that 11,075 pieces of heavy equipment – construction and farm and including riding mowers – were reported stolen in the U.S. last year.
- Five states – Texas, North Carolina, Florida, California and Georgia accounted for 40% of the reported thefts. About half of thefts occurred when the equipment was somewhere other than the owner's premises or being hauled to or from a job site.
- About 21% of stolen equipment was recovered last year, the report states.
