Dive Brief:
- For the Miami waterfront, Berkowitz Development Group Inc. plans to erect a 1,000-foot observation tower that will have a ballroom, a restaurant and other retail tenants.
- The building is supposed to go into construction in 2014 and open in 2017, and Berkowitz is predicting more than 3 million visitors to it every year.
- Tishman Construction and Coastal Construction are signed up to build the tower, which will be the tallest such building in the state.
Dive Insight:
The name for the project is SkyRise Miami, and it's part of downtown's Bayfront Entertainment Center. The tower will have a 1.6-acre parcel from which to soar. Miami-Dade County's mayor, Carlos Gimenez, is a supporter, saying with no irony, "I really hope it gets off the ground."
