Dive Brief:
- WPL Publishing surveyed construction professionals as well as building owners and others, and found that almost all say they have used Critical Path Method (CPM) software applications in their work.
- A little more than half—53%—of respondents said they use CPM applications because they want to, and most of the rest said they use CPM because the owners of projects want it done for managing payments or progress reports.
- In terms of experience, the most people had used Microsoft Project (81.2%) followed by experience with one or more Primavera products:
- Primavera P6 at 70.9%
- Primavera P3 at 67.8%
- Primavera SureTrak at 58.1%
- Primavera Contractor at 22.5%
Dive Insight:
The editors at WPL said they wanted to find out why people use CPM software, beyond everyone being told that it's the right thing to do in the industry. Three people who answered the survey said they use CPM in Building Information Modeling (BIM). When WPL asked for a wish list of improvements, lots of people asked for "more intuitive" applications, and some raised issues with Primavera P3 and SureTrak being incompatible with new Windows versions.
