Dive Brief:
- A construction blast went awry in Saugus, Massachusetts as the blast on a local property caused a boulder to nearly crush the neighboring Grace Ministries Church.
- The boulder, which was estimated at 20 tons, came out from underneath the protective cover for the blast and rolled right up onto the church step.
- The boulder would have damaged the church if it had moved only another 12 inches.
Dive Insight:
Construction workers were not immediately sure where, precisely, the boulder originated from.
The pastor of the local church insinuated that divine intervention may have played a role in saving the church from destruction. “I was thinking the church was going to get wrecked,” said Pastor Rick LeClair, who watched from across the street. Instead, “the Lord just kind of said, ‘That’s enough.’”
