A 72,000-square-foot concrete house between Springfield and Branson, Mo., is both one of the largest single-family homes in the United States and a demonstration of a concrete-forming system designed to enhance concrete's ability to regulate the living environment.
The owner and designer of the house, Steven Huff, is also co-owner of TF Forming Systems of Green Bay, Wis.
The TF forming system differs from a typical ICF system. In the typical system, the foam insulation thickness is equal on the inside and outside of a wall., and is strong enough to resist form pressures during concrete placement.
The TF (or TransForm) System uses 4 or 5 inches of rigid foam insulation on the outside of the wall, and that acts as the form panel during construction and insulation afterward. The inside wall surface is covered by a 3/4-inch-thick rigid foam insulation panel.
