Award: Stadium renovation
Value: $800 million
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Client: Tepper Sports & Entertainment
A joint venture of Clark Construction and D.A. Everett Construction will lead the $800 million renovation of Bank of America Stadium, according to a press release shared with Construction Dive. Work to upgrade the NFL’s Carolina Panthers home stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, will begin in 2026, team owner Tepper Sports & Entertainment announced Oct. 30.
In addition to the stadium renovation, an indoor field house will be constructed on the team’s existing, 9-acre practice field near the stadium.
While Bethesda, Maryland-based Clark and Charlotte-based D.A. Everett are slated to deliver the stadium renovations — set to finish in 2030 — two local firms, Rodgers Builders and R.J. Leeper Construction, will handle construction at the practice site, according to the release.
Construction work next year will focus on electrical, plumbing, mechanical and HVAC. In following years, the project team will upgrade audio and video systems, install new lighting, replace all seats, upgrade concessions and concourses, create a group viewing area in the upper bowl and add exterior video boards for community gathering outside the stadium.
CAA Icon, a sports and entertainment venue development firm, will serve as project manager and owner’s representative for Tepper Sports & Entertainment. St. Louis-based HOK, the architecture firm that originally designed the stadium in the mid-1990s, will once again provide designs for the stadium renovation, per the release.
Tourism taxes will fund 80% of the project. The Charlotte City Council originally approved the project in June 2024. Last week, the council voted to approve $650 million of debt to start work.
In addition, the city set targets for 15% of construction work to be done by minority-owned small businesses and 12% by women-owned companies, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. Both D.A. Everett Construction and R.J. Leeper Construction are minority-owned companies.
The stadium is also home to Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC.
