Sundt Construction, a general contractor based in Tempe, Arizona, was named the highest-ranking contractor for the $396 million State Route 347 Improvement Project in Arizona, according to an announcement from the state’s DOT.
The project will improve a 15-mile section of State Route 347 between Interstate 10 and the city of Maricopa, Arizona, according to the news release. The stretch runs through Maricopa and Pinal counties, primarily within the Gila River Indian Community.
The planned improvements include:
- Building one lane in each direction along SR 347 from I-10 to the city of Maricopa.
- Rehabilitating the existing pavement along that same 15-mile stretch of roadway.
- Constructing new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way.
- Adding turn lanes and other intersection improvements at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road.
The goal of the project is to help reduce congestion and improve safety and traffic along the roadway.
Sundt was selected as the highest-ranking contractor after a review process by the project team, per the release. Negotiations for the preconstruction contract are expected to be finalized in February. This process, according to the news release, will allow Sundt’s construction team to add input into the improvements’ design.
The past few months have been busy for the contractor. On Oct. 1, the company announced that Cade Rowley, its former president and COO, would take over as president and CEO. On the building side, the builder was tapped alongside Dallas-based Jacobs for a $600 million Arizona road project. And in November, a team of Sundt, Jacobs and Omaha, Nebraska-based HDR completed a $597 million California wastewater project.
