Dive Brief:
- The Hive is not a hotel that any contractor is building yet – or perhaps "assembling" would be more apt – or that any travel agent can book you into, but it is an intriguing idea.
- OVA Studios, a Hong Kong architecture and planning firm, came up with a hotel made entirely of shipping containers that can be slipped in and out of a framework and rearranged or moved to another site. The containers are each sponsored by a company that gets to design the interior and advertise on the outside.
- OVA used the growing interest in land-based uses of seagoing containers for the Hive, which was its entry in a radical design competition.
Dive Insight:
It looks kind of crazy, but having the room interiors differ from brand to brand might give it some commercial buzz if it were built.
