Amazon adds another fulfillment center in California

Dive Brief:

  • A 700,000-square-foot center in Redlands, CA will take the space from Clarion Partners as the fifth Amazon.com fulfillment center in California.
  • The fulfillment center will work to pack and ship larger items, such as big-screen T.Vs and kayaks.
  • Mike Roth, Amazon's vice-president of North America operations, said that Amazon's fulfillment centers have hired for more than "2,500 full-time jobs in California that offer wages 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores and include comprehensive benefits on day one, bonuses and stock awards."

Dive Insight:

The ability order almost anything with the click of a mouse— only to have it show up on their doorstep just a couple of days later— is almost magical to avid Amazon shoppers, and these fulfillment centers are what make it happen. California's other fulfillment centers are in San Bernardino, Moreno Valley, Patterson, and Tracy. Dallas-based construction company Trammell Crow Company will oversee the development of the new center.
