• Associated General Contractors says it is connecting with a national program called Hire Our Heroes in an effort to connect its member construction firms with veterans looking for jobs.
• The group has a goal of hiring 100,000 veterans in five years.
• Part of the effort will be to get construction firms looking for workers to job fairs sponsored by the Hiring Our Heroes program, which is a campaign operated by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Stephen E. Sandherr, AGC's chief executive, said the timing for the veteran-construction program is good because two-thirds of contractors are reporting that they have trouble finding workers. Construction companies find it difficult to identify service men and woman who are near the ends of their enlistments and will want private-sector jobs, Sandherr said.
