Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC), a trade association, has launched a campaign to help companies that are being targeted by uniuons using banner campaigns.
People hold the banners outside construction sites where the targeted contractors are working, ABC explains on a website dedicated to its counter-effort. They often say "shame" on the company or institution for which the contractor is working.
The website, shameonunionbanners.com, offers advice for contractors and the companies that hire them.
"Contractors are frequently targets of union-sponsored misinformation campaigns," ABC tells developers and project owners. "Learn the facts before you accept the union’s claims. Ask your contractor about its wage and benefit packages. Find out why Big Labor is really holding an intimidating banner outside your business."
"Most bannering campaigns claim a contractor is not paying area standard wages (i.e., union-scale wages)," ABC tells contractors. "While this may be true, many contractors can demonstrate that they pay workers fair wages and other benefits."
ABC blames a 2010 U.S. Court of Appeals decision for making bannering more common.
