News reports today say that the opening of the 9/11 museum and memorial at ground Zero in New York may be delayed because a foundation headed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is locked in a spat with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey about costs for the over-budget project.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Port Authority says the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center Foundation, Inc.owes $156 million toward construction costs for the museum, which the authority is building.
The Associated Press explained that the foundation's job is to build the museum. The authority is supposed to pay for infrastructure improvements.
The foundation, the Journal said, feels it is owed $100 million because of delays.
The overall cost of the project is estimated at $800 million.
The Port Authority, which the governors of New York and New Jersey control, owned the World Trade Center.
