Pioneering Virginia-Based Construction Firm Drives Growth and Commitment to Core Values
Williamsburg, VA – As they continue to celebrate their 60th anniversary, Henderson, Inc. is proud to announce the third generation of the Henderson family has taken over the leadership reins of the construction company. Leslie Henderson Schultz was named President of Henderson, Inc., one of the leading commercial construction firms in southeast Virginia, following in the footsteps of father, Pete Henderson, and grandfather, David L. Henderson. David launched the company with wife Shirley in 1957.
As the newest leader of the multi-generational family business, Schultz is deeply committed to the company’s time-tested business practices and core values rooted in integrity, quality, relationships and safety.
“I am so very proud of the company that my grandfather and father built up over the past 60 years, and what our extended family – the Henderson construction team – has been able to create for our loyal clients,” said Schultz. “It’s really an honor to work with so many dedicated people who deliver on our promise to go ‘Beyond the Building’ each and every day.”
Henderson, Inc. employs more than 140 people, including the leadership group, project managers, superintendents, site crews, corporate staff, and estimators. The firm has been a builder of choice in Williamsburg for decades, having constructed the foundation for Williamsburg’s first water tower and some of the early, modern buildings across the College of William and Mary campus and Colonial Williamsburg.
In 1979, founder David L. Henderson passed the reins of Henderson, Inc. to his son Pete and daughter-in-law Connie. Soon after, the company began a lasting relationship with the theme park Busch Gardens Williamsburg, going on to build some of its most recognizable attractions including the Roman Rapids water ride, the Griffon roller coaster, and the Curse of DarKastle multi-dimensional experience, along with many others.
Schultz and Peter Henderson (both children of Pete Henderson) along with Brian Schultz (son-in-law of Pete Henderson) all joined Henderson, Inc. in the early 2000’s after working outside of the family business.
“My father impressed upon me the need to develop experience in a work environment beyond the family business,” Schultz said. “The time I spent working for a general contractor in Northern Virginia was definitely valuable, but when Dad called in 2004 to see if I was ready to come back home to Williamsburg, I jumped at the chance.”
Today’s generation leading Henderson, Inc. continues to build on a tradition of excellence, with work still occurring at Busch Gardens and colonial regions of Williamsburg, but also stretching out to include, among other projects, medical practices, retirement communities, retail centers, banking institutions, restaurants and lodging.
