Dive Brief:
-
Every now and then, a Realtor, remodeler or homebuilder might need to know: Has anyone ever died on this property?
-
They can find out by visiting a new website: DiedInHouse.com, created by South Carolina landlord Rod Condrey after a tenant told him she suspected the house she rented from him was haunted. Condrey looked into it and learned that a 26-year-old had murdered his father and grandfather in the house, and then threw a party.
-
The website can instantly answer a query about whether someone has died at any U.S. address, when the death occurred and what the cause was. The cost of the service starts at $11.99.
Dive Insight:
While Condrey told NJ.com that knowing someone was murdered in a home—or even died there from natural causes—could cause a house hunter to shy away from purchasing it, that might not be true across the board. In a tongue-in-cheek Halloween survey, Trulia learned that many homeowners would gladly share their new abode with a friendly ghost—for a deep discount on the selling price, of course.
