Wall Street analysts are fairly certain the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates by next spring.

In a new Reuters survey of the 22 banks that deal directly with the Fed, nine of the 17 that participated predicted the rate hike. A month ago, six of 19 banks in the survey forecast the same.

The prediction came despite a government report on Friday that confirmed a slowdown in hiring.

The lowest interest rates in history have created a surge in home sales and home prices. Even modest rate hikes could dampen that momentum, analysts predict, especially in large coastal cities where home prices are higher, like Boston, New York and Washington, as well as California.
