Dive Insight:
Suffolk's plans for its new office includes a cafeteria, fitness center, conference and training rooms, multipurpose space, extra secure parking and outdoor spaces.
In January, Wynn Resorts Ltd. awarded Suffolk a $1 billion contract to build the new Wynn Resort casino in Everett, MA. Wynn officials said the project would create approximately 4,000 union construction jobs and 4,000 permanent jobs when the casino opens. However, the project has been embroiled in controversy.
The resort giant won the only casino license in the region over a competing project, Suffolk Downs. Then Wynn was also able to secure a critical environmental permit stating that traffic and environmental impacts had been addressed. However, neighboring Somerville's Mayor Joseph Curtatone appealed the permit, so the project is currently on hold, as Curtatone, despite labor and other pleas for him to drop the case, said the issues of traffic and resulting pollution have not been addressed.
