Dive Brief:
-
Hotel builders this year will be creating guest rooms that are a bit more minimalist and have extra space for visitors to exercise.
-
“Instead of the idea, ‘Here is your hotel and you can go to the spa or to the gym,’ guest rooms will include exercise equipment and space for yoga," Susie Ellis, president of Spafinder Wellness, which produces an annual Wellness Report, told financial website Mainstreet.com. “Wellness is infused throughout the entire hotel.”
-
Other trends for hotels under construction in 2015 include bold colors, brass fixtures, and an overall focus on health. Ellis said high-end hotels are likely to incorporate air-purification systems, showers that feature vitamin C-infused water to neutralize chlorine, and special lighting that helps reduce jet lag.
Dive Insight:
The hotel construction trends reflect a growing “wellness travel” industry that promotes the use of sustainable materials in hotels, conference rooms, and workplaces. The move is a response, in part, to the growing interest by health-conscious travelers in maintaining their healthy lifestyles while traveling for business and vacation.
