Dive Brief:
-
A Slovak urban designer has drawn up plans to convert some of his country’s billboards into shelters for the homeless.
-
Called Project Gregory, the design would squeeze a tiny apartment, with a kitchen, an office, a bed and a bathroom, between the three sides of a typical, triangle-shaped Slovak billboard. The project’s creator, who identifies himself only as Gregory, says the apartments could be offered to those who otherwise would sleep on the street.
-
Mockups for the billboard house went viral online this summer, and the creator has offered them to anyone who wants to use them. He is searching for investors to pay for a model billboard home in Slovakia.
Dive Insight:
Matej Nedorolik, business manager of Gregory’s company, DesignDevelop, says the shelters will give Slovakia’s homeless “a chance to get back into a normal life, to start with a new job or start with a new family or so on.”
