D.R. Horton, the largest U.S. homebuilder, has announced it will move its corporate headquarters from downtown Fort Worth, TX, to a 150,000-square-foot campus in Arlington, TX.
-
The builder said it plans to develop a vacant lot at a cost of more than $20 million. The new site, the company said in a news release, will give the big builder easier access to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
-
Approximately 500 of the firm’s 6,300 employees nationwide work at the Fort Worth headquarters, where the builder moved in 2004 — from its prior location in Arlington.
Dive Insight:
The big builder faces some development challenges as its crews put their homebuilding skills to work for their own company.
D.R. Horton has asked the Arlington City Council for $5.5 million to help develop its new corporate location, which will require improvements to drainage, roadways, structured parking and other infrastructure, according to the release.
The City Council is scheduled to consider the request on Tuesday. Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams has said he supports the investment, which he predicted “will help spur additional interest” in the area, which has land available for development.
D.R. Horton has said development and construction of the new campus will create 350 to 500 jobs.
